ICM's Caching Survey - Results

The aim of this survey was to provide the European Caching Task Force with an overview of the caching systems in Europe. It was launched on September 6th 1996 and this analysis covers the time until October 15th . We were surprised by the very good feedback - we received about 200 replies from 35 different countries. We had to drop all answers ordinating from non-European countries, so from these 200 replies, 170 have been taken into account.
Our thanks to all the participants.

Replies by country

Shown are only countries with more than 5 replies. Note that only 5 countries score for more than 50 percent of all responses.

Participation in hierarchical caching systems

Interested in joining a future European Caching Mesh ?

The attitude to a Euro-Cache-Mesh is generally positive. Not surprisingly the ISP seem to be more sceptical in this topic than Universities are.

Caching software used

This picture is clear - Squid leads this business. Non-Harvest caches have only a 10 percent share.

Operating system of the proxy

Is the cache operating on a dedicated machine ?

Can users bypass the cache ?
